You receive a written summary. Professor Lee can help you himself, refer you on, or you may continue with your current plan. It is your decision.

What is a second opinion?
A second opinion is an independent review of your diagnosis or the treatment you have been offered, given by a doctor who was not involved in your original care. It is a normal, everyday part of medicine. The General Medical Council expects doctors to respect a patient’s right to seek one.
Do I need a referral from my GP or consultant?
No. You can book directly. You do not need permission from your current team, though bringing your records and scans makes the appointment far more useful.
Will this affect my current care or my place on a waiting list?
No. A private second opinion sits alongside your existing care. You keep your NHS referral, your place on any waiting list and your relationship with your own team unless you choose to change it.
What happens on the day?
The appointment is 45 minutes, face to face. Professor Lee takes your history, reviews any imaging and reports you bring, and carries out a clinical examination before discussing what he sees.
